What is expected from an owner?
As the owner of the horse you will be expected to condition your horse's feet. This could will require walking your horse at first in hand and then under saddle over a variety of terrains. The terrain you expose your horse to will depend very much on the strengths of the foot. Once you are though the transitioning period then you will be able to go over most or all terrains, however, the responsibility for achieving this lies very much with you. You will of course have my full support and guidance.
The trim that a horse receives is very important in that dictates how certain stimulus will affect the growth of the foot. However, as an owner, it is you who is there every day to provide the stimulus. As an EP I will affect the horses feet for about 1 hour out of every month (ie the trim), though I am able to guide and advise you, it will be you who is responsible for the stimulus that the feet receive for the rest of the month.
You will need to be present at every trim to hold you horse and walk them out. You will also be there to observe the progress of the feet, discuss how the previous month went and to help form the plan of action for the next month. AEP depends on the active involvement of the owner to provide whole hoof care for the horse.
